About NHH

In February 2012 Near His Heart began as a community outreach by Lakeview Baptist Church's Ladies Ministry, Ladies at the Well. They were seeking an idea for a "community outreach," and Carrie Fellows, a mom of a child with special needs, suggested something for families of children with special needs. Carrie spoke to Julie Brown about the idea and they began to plan and pray. Working with the Lakeview Ladies at the Well ministry, they decided a dinner for the families would be a great first-time outreach event for this area. The Lakeview ladies ministry is made up of some phenomenally talented women, who helped put this event together in a very short time frame, with amazing results. The response from our community was greater than expected, and many agreed the event should be continued, though as it's own ministry. Carrie, having other commitments, was not able to continue in the director role (though she still helps in other ways), so Julie and her husband, Anthony, stepped into the role for the next year, along side the leadership of Corrie Kent from First Baptist Church Opelika and Kim Smith from Cornerstone Methodist in Auburn. Being hosted by Lakeview, the Near His Heart leadership team, in under the help and accountability of the Lakeview ministerial staff, though leadership on the core team and volunteers for the night of the event are included from churches across the Auburn and Opelika community.
